4. As Irma approached Florida, it prompted one of the largest mass evacuations in the state’s history, affecting millions of residents.

5. Despite weakening to a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall in Florida, Irma left a trail of destruction, causing extensive flooding, storm surges, and power outages throughout the region.
