Florida Public Adjuster Licensing Path
A Florida public adjuster career is regulated. Candidates should understand that the path to becoming a public adjuster is different from simply working in claims, roofing, restoration, or estimating.
Step 1: All-Lines Adjuster License
Most apprentice candidates start with a Florida 6-20 Resident All-Lines Adjuster license. Non-resident candidates may follow the non-resident all-lines path if qualified. The all-lines adjuster license is the foundation for the public adjuster apprentice appointment.
Step 2: Public Adjuster Apprentice Appointment
A Florida public adjuster apprentice appointment is commonly referred to as the 31-20 appointment. Florida DFS materials state that a candidate must hold a resident 6-20 or non-resident 7-20 all-lines adjuster license before obtaining the public adjuster apprentice appointment.
Step 3: Bond and Appointment Requirements
Florida public adjuster apprentice materials reference a $50,000 surety bond requirement. A public adjuster apprentice must also be appointed through a licensed public adjusting firm that is qualified to appoint apprentices.
Step 4: Apprenticeship and Supervision
Apprentices learn under supervision. Florida DFS explains that public adjuster apprentices have authority tied to the licensed public adjuster or public adjusting firm employing them, but an apprentice may not execute public adjuster contracts.
Step 5: 3-20 Public Adjuster License
A fully licensed Florida public adjuster generally holds the 3-20 Public Adjuster license. Candidates should review Florida DFS requirements and verify the current licensing path before applying.
